Lancaster Aftercare Program

Life After Residential Drug and Alcohol Treatment

Our patients who have completed residential treatment at Design for Change Recovery leave well-equipped to handle life outside our center.

Many choose to enroll in our outpatient program. Staying longer in treatment gives you a better chance for maintaining your sobriety and preventing relapse. Outpatient program participants continue learning about:

  • Family Issues
  • Triggers
  • Marital Issues
  • Job Issues
  • Stressors

College students also benefit from our outpatient program because they can still attend school, but also focus on their recovery. They learn how to:

  • Cope with academic stress
  • Make new supportive friends
  • Stay away from people, places or things that can trigger a relapse

Sober Living

Our sober living programs in Lancaster, California are well suited for clients who need to ease into building their new sober life in a home setting. Our houses are gender specific where clients learn how to live a substance free and structured life. Structure is extremely important in early recovery.

The abuse of substances takes up a substantial amount of time. When clients decide to live a life free from the chains of addiction can leave then with extra time on their hands. They need to learn how to fill that void productively, without drugs or alcohol. Maintaining a schedule is an important way to protect clients from relapse. Those in sober living have the option of enrolling in our outpatient program, and can choose to meet once a week with a therapist.

Drug tests are done to ensure the safety, health, and protection of people residing in sober living. Some drug tests are random, and others are scheduled. Drug tests are important because people in sober living need to be surrounded by others who have made a commitment to sobriety.

Clients in sober living are encouraged to attend AA meetings, seek employment or enroll in school as soon as possible, so they can create and maintain a healthy schedule.

12 Step Programs and AA Meetings

When people leave our facility and do not continue with outpatient, we make sure they have a full list of 12 Step meetings in their area. We also encourage our patients to get a sponsor immediately when they come home, so they can continue to work the 12-Steps.

The fellowship in 12 Step programs can be extremely powerful. Those in 12 Step programs want their fellow members to succeed and everyone benefits from mutual support. Emotional support is given to each other, so members feel stronger and more prepared to face difficult situations. Sharing stories and learning from other members is uplifting, and people don’t feel isolated. Facing challenges in early recovery is easier when you have a support system in place.

Therapists

We also make sure clients have a list of certified therapists in their area. We want our clients to have access to as many sober living resources in Lancaster as possible. We give them a list so they can make their own decision about who they choose to engage in their mental health treatment with. Having options is important so they can find the right person who fits their particular needs.
